I am terrible at writing journals and keeping up to date with them.  I don't even know if anyone even reads these or even if they're in anyway interesting to anybody at all. But just in case, I will send this out into the ether!

I am so excited to be starting my biggest theatrical job to date next month! Can hardly believe it really, but in a couple of weeks I will be a dresser on a show running on London's Southbank! Unbelievable and I am so thrilled. Can't wait to get going and I hope this will be the start of more good things to come!

So I've been away for quite some time....but now I've added some new stuff at last.

I have been working professionally in theatre at last! Making my way up the ladder, wardrobe assistant at the moment but hoping to take on more making roles in the future.  Got to do a bit of tailoring a few months ago and it has made me realise how much I miss doing it!!!!

Finally I have uploaded some of the pictures of the costumes that I did as Head of Wardrobe for a production of The Hot Mikado - sorry it has taken so long if you have been waiting for them!  I have tried to select a few photos that give an overall idea of what the production looked like (thanks to the photographer for some stunning images - unfortunately I do not know who he was).

I had so much fun talking to the director and working out exactly what the show was going to look like and what his vision of the costumes would be like and how I could make his vision a reality.  It turned out to be really easy in that respect as we were both on the same page from the get go.  We were finishing each others sentences and getting enthusiastic about each others ideas.

Finding all of the costumes was the hard part, which took a lot of dedication and hours upon hours of sourcing.  Everything in the show was eventually either sourced by me, borrowed from the cast or in a few cases hired from a costume house.  My favourite part was the customising I got to do, in particular a dress for one of the ensemble who was supposed to be a Strictly Come Dancing type.  I bought a really cheap dress off eBay and then put trimmings on it and then stuck over 700 diamantes on it! It was time consuming but totally worth it as it looked fab sparkling under the stage lights!!!

The Society that I was working with were so pleased with my work that they have asked me back to costume another of their productions at the start of the new year! I can't wait!

So Hot Mikado went really well... I will publish photos of my costuming for the show soon and write about my experiences of being head of costume for the first time in my next post.

At the moment I have a lovely late night sponsored 10 mile walk to do tonight! eeek! Wouldn't be so much of a problem if I didn't have a long-standing knee injury which is making me really nervous.  Hopefully all will go well... and I won't get rained on (fingers crossed).

So the dress project worked out really well and was a lot easier than I thought.  I had it all drafted out, cut and sewn together in 4 days - not bad, but could have been faster.  I've been given a lot of really nice compliments about it and everyone seems to have been surprised that its home-made. Nice!  As I mentioned before I've never designed a dress before so its fantastic that it turned out so well, its given me a massive boost to my confidence.

My job as Head of Wardrobe is finally getting going now.  Lots of exciting challenges ahead still, namely calling a whole load of costume hire places to sort out several essential costumes... a gold sequin suit anyone?  The director is really happy with the choices I've made so far, which is a relief.  We seem to be on exactly the same wavelength which is really awesome and makes it a lot easier to do my job.

The main thing I have to look forward to is my birthday on Saturday! Yay! Going to spend the evening with my friends bowling.  I haven't been in absolutely ages but i love it.  And I don't care what anyone thinks or says I am totally having the bumpers up for my turn! I do not care if it is cheating... I am not having an entire evening of possible gutter ball! lol! (i really will try not to use them!) Then onto cocktails and mexican food at Chiquitos - YUM YUM
